Analyze the similarities and differences between RFID technology and barcode technology

RFID is the abbreviation of Radio Frequency Identification Technology (Radio Frequecy Identification), usually commonly known as electronic tags. RFID radio frequency identification technology is a non-contact automatic identification technology that can realize reading and writing and collecting information at different distances, and establish unique identification of items. RFID technology is widely used and is a very important perception layer in the construction of the Internet of Things. You can simply imagine that RFID technology is similar to barcode scanning, barcode technology, attaching the coded barcode to the article, scanning the code, and transmitting the information to the scanning reader through optical signal information, while RFID technology is Use RFID reader to read and write through RFID electronic tags, and use frequency signals to transmit and read information. Both RFID technology and barcode technology have relative advantages.

Barcode is a graphical display of information. Barcodes are made from written information, which can be seen everywhere in life. Because the cost of printing is low, it can even be ignored. As long as the corresponding scanning equipment is aligned with the barcode, it can be read. For information that has been written, one-dimensional barcodes and two-dimensional barcodes are more common. One-dimensional barcodes generally have a relatively large impact on the environment for reading and writing, and the information needs to be read and written in a horizontal direction. Its advantages are that information is entered quickly and entry errors are relatively low, but its disadvantages are that the amount of data storage is relatively small, and the appearance of the barcode is easily damaged and cannot be read. Write. Therefore, it is necessary to keep the surface of the barcode clean, otherwise it will affect the reading and writing collection.

Two-dimensional barcode is a barcode that stores information in a two-dimensional space in the horizontal and vertical directions. It is an application technology that uses a certain geometric shape to be distributed on a plane according to a certain rule (black and white) to record information. It can be divided into stacks Type/row-type two-dimensional code and matrix type two-dimensional code. The two-dimensional code makes up for the shortcomings of the one-dimensional code in reading and writing information. In contrast, the two-dimensional code has high information density and large capacity, which can not only prevent reading and writing errors but also correct errors, and partial damage to the barcode can also remove information. Restore, suitable for multiple reading devices for reading. RFID recognition technology can solve these problems well and can read information well. The RFID system consists of electronic tags, readers, and servers. RFID When the user uses the reader to read and write the electronic tag on the article, the reader antenna sends an electromagnetic signal to the tag to communicate with the tag. The RFID code in the tag is transmitted back to the reader, which then decodes with the system server, and then displays the item's information.

RFID tags are active and passive tags. Active tags need batteries to power them. The working time and reader can generally be more than 10m. Due to the high cost, they are less used. At present, passive tags are mainly used by readers. Energy is extracted from the emitted electromagnetic field to supply electricity. So the distance to the reader is about 1m. Both barcode and RFID technology can store the information of the item and represent the identity of the item. There are many differences between the two in essence.

  (1) The barcode does not have the function of reading and writing, and no more information can be added to the already printed barcode; the RFID tag can be read and written, and the RFID reader can communicate with the tag and modify the stored information within the allowable range of the tag design.

  (2) The barcode reader needs to read the printed barcode at a close distance, and the barcode only supports short-distance reading; the RFID tag supports a longer reading distance, and the RFID reader does not need to read the active RFID tag or Passive RFID tags are aligned and read at close range.
