RFID tags are active and passive tags. Active tags need batteries to power them. The working time and reader can generally be more than 10m. Due to the high cost, they are less used. At present, passive tags are mainly used by readers. Energy is extracted from the emitted electromagnetic field to supply electricity. So the distance to the reader is about 1m. Both barcode and RFID technology can store the information of the item and represent the identity of the item. There are many differences between the two in essence.
(1) The barcode does not have the function of reading and writing, and no more information can be added to the already printed barcode; the RFID tag can be read and written, and the RFID reader can communicate with the tag and modify the stored information within the allowable range of the tag design.
(2) The barcode reader needs to read the printed barcode at a close distance, and the barcode only supports short-distance reading; the RFID tag supports a longer reading distance, and the RFID reader does not need to read the active RFID tag or Passive RFID tags are aligned and read at close range.
