Current situation and opportunities of RFID utilization
According to IDTechEx, the overall RFID market was valued at about $112 billion in 2017, up from $105.2 billion in 2016 and $99.5 billion in 2015. Its statistics include: volume label, reader, RFID volume label, card, coil and other carrier software/integration service (including passive and automatic labels). IDTechEx also estimates it will be worth $149 billion by 2022.
Label Usage
In the retail industry, the clothing industry is still continuously using RFID labeling, but in terms of consumption, across other utilization, in 2017 alone is the clothing tag demand reached 87 billion. With the latent market segment of the entire apparel property, the penetration rate of RFID in 2017 was below 20%, and there is still room for growth. In addition, RFID demand for transport ticket tags reached 825 million. Animal labeling (such as pigs, sheep, cattle and pets, etc.) also has great potential. In many countries, laws and regulations have been established, and 480 million labels were applied in 2017.
Overall, IDTechEx estimates 182 billion tags sold in 2017, compared with 152 billion tags sold in 2016, with most of the sector's growth coming from passive UHF tags. However, in terms of sales volume, UHF tags only account for 25% of the sales volume of high-frequency HF tags. Because high-frequency HF tags are used in security and control departments (such as: sales, access control), they are relatively higher than popular UHF discarded tags.
