What is the relationship between RFID and NFC
The identification technology in the Internet of Things is mainly RFID and NFC wireless technology. The representative of the initial identification technology is RFID and later with the expansion of the industry, it has extended the NFC technology. At present, these two technologies play a huge role in the identification of the Internet of Things. However, many people are not clear about the relationship between RFID and NFC. In what field they are used, the boundary is also very blurred.
Let us first understand the two terms RFID and NFC:
1. RFID: RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification, also known as Radio Frequency Identification. It is a communication technology that can identify specific targets and read and write related data through wireless communication numbers.
2. NFC: NFC is short-range wireless communication technology, which can carry out short-range wireless communication between mobile devices, consumer electronics, PCs and smart control tools.
What is the difference between NFC and RFID:
(1) Working frequency band
The biggest common point between RFID and NFC is that they both use 13.56M, but NFC only has a frequency band of 13.56, while RFID has many other frequency bands besides 13.56M. The low frequency band has 125KHz, the high frequency band has 13.56MHz, and the ultra-high frequency band has 433.92. MHz, 915MHz, and 2.45GHz in the microwave frequency band.
The original intention of NFC was to realize near-field payment. NFC chose 13.56M as the basis and added a point-to-point communication. Traditional RFID can only interact with one READER and one TAG at the same time, while NFC can interact between two READERs. Transfer data.
(2) Communication distance
NFC is called near field communication, and the communication distance is indeed very close, no more than 0.1m.
There are many types of RFID, and the recognition distance is also different. Like RFID access control cards, the recognition distance is similar to that of NFC. But for the application scenario of ETC, the recognition distance is required to be relatively long. The recognition distance of long-distance RFID can reach tens of meters or even hundreds of meters.
(3) Application scenario
No matter whether RFID is active or passive, its main job is to identify objects. RFID technology is widely used in logistics, transportation, and warehousing to track goods.
The NFC chip has a higher level of integration, including a card reader and a tag. In addition, the two-way communication capability of NFC has been strengthened. In other words, NFC can be used not only as a tag for identification, but also as a two-way communication method for data exchange. At present, NFC is most commonly used in the field of payment.
Seeing this, will NFC and RFID still be stupidly confused? In general, NFC technology is developed on the basis of RFID technology, but the application scenarios of the two are still different. Compared with NFC, RFID The application scenarios of ”should be more ubiquitous and cannot be replaced by NFC.
Although NFC technology can be used in many scenarios such as the field of payment and short-range object recognition, at present, NFC technology has not become a necessary communication interface for mobile phones.
